Required Projects & Techniques
Students must complete 5 of the following projects:

Slump/Hump Molds
Students will use various techniques using hand-built techniques and the use of a mold to drape their clay across or inside.

Making Music- Whistles

Culture Piece
Students will Research a culture- student select from list
Students will identify the key facts and explore the pottery common with this culture. Then Taking their inspiration from this period students will create their own projects. Cultural Differences / Large Coil

Hollow Vessel- Piggy Bank
Students will complete a hollow vessel using any hand-building technique covered in beginnig ceramics. Most common would be the double pinch pot technique.

Matching Sets- Wheel Thrown Pottery
Unity:
Students will complete matching sets. The project will consist of a teapot and matching components such as 2 cups. This could be adjusted according to the artists versions of a matching set. (Approval of design needed from instructor) -Students will explore a given art time period and create pieces based off famous works of art where the 3 components work together to evoke this unified theme. (example image is clearly not wheel thrown, but gives an idea of what we're looking for as far as a unified theme.) |
FINAL PROJECT:
INTRODUCTION TO FINAL PROJECT: Students may begin on it as early as they wish. Outside studio time is available upon request. I stay after school nearly every day. Prior arrangement is preferred to assure supervision and access to supplies.
RESEARCH PAPER:

A brief history of Ugly Jugs

- The artist and artwork that inspires will be written about in a 2 page paper detailing it's impact on its art movement. MLA rules required.

There will be no firing over Christmas or Summer Break since it can not be graded in time! Work must be completed in time to be fired on the final firing date (beginning of the last week)
